I've read a few things now by you that give me a bit of hope. I'm self published in my other line of work but reading your work on being a solopreneur has been really inspiring. I can't stop thinking about that Lindisfarne author who just smashed it. I hope you do well and wish you the best of luck. I read Garth Nix a lot as a teenager and your blurb and reviews make me feel like I should really add this to my TBR list!
There's so much doom and gloom around self-publishing but I honestly think it and indie publishing are the future. Authors have to do all their own marketing and promo anyway so we may as well get a bigger cut from our work. And there are tons of benefits to solopreneurship that feed directly into a self-driven writing career. I'll keep sharing those writing success stories because they inspire me too. And definitely add Soulburn to your TBR list, I think you'd like it! Thanks Hanna!
I would say that most of it is based on snobbery and fear. My sister has a book deal with Gollancz and has had to do so much marketing herself. She's happy to do it and that works for her but every time she tells me about it I think "I'm defo going self published" 😂
